--Author Interview--
Little Birdy Book Blog: Welcome, Michelle! So, what do you do for fun, outside of writing?
Michelle Irwin: I love travelling. My hubby is in the process of doing up a little caravan for the family of three so hopefully we’ll be able to do a bit more of it in the future. Maybe see some more of Australia while we try to save for some US & UK trips.
LBBB: If you could co-write a book with any author, who would it be? Why?
M.I.: J. Corrine. She’s my main beta/pre-reader and shares a massive part of my brain. She gets me in a way I think very few others would, she understands my process and I think she would at least be understanding when the planned XYZ turns into ABC. Honestly, I think the combined power of our brains would produce something either incredibly scary or incredibly awesome.
LBBB: What do you do when you get into a writers slump?
M.I.: Generally, I’ll try to edit instead. Or I try to write something completely unrelated and just for fun. I also have a series of playlists which can help get me into the right mood for the story I need to write.
LBBB: What is your favorite type of scene to write?
M.I.: I love the drop your heart to the floor moments: the fights, break-ups, and the unexpected twists. The moments where you can feel what’s happening. These are usually the times for me when the words just fall from my fingers and I try to write through the tears or pounding heart.
LBBB: Do you have any writing totems? (e.g., a stuffed toy you keep on your desk as you write, or something to do with the book you’re currently working on. A particular piece of clothing you wear?)
M.I.: No. I have my spot on the couch where I have to write, and I have to have my music on, but I don’t have any other specific rituals or totems.
LBBB: And can you tell us, who is Declan Reede?? We’re curious ;)
M.I.: #WhoisDeclanReede? indeed ;) I can tell you he’s an Australian racecar driver, and he’s regarded as a bit of a bad boy of the sport—and more will be revealed on www.whoisDeclanReede.com over the coming weeks.
LBBB: Way to be mysterious, girl! ;) Well, thanks for stopping by and letting us pick your brain!
