Today on the blog, we have author Sabrina Quinn! Check out her inspirations and writing routine below:
Little Birdy Book Blog: What inspired you to start writing?
Sabrina Quinn: I have been writing literally since I learned to write. i have always loved reading. My parents have books saved that I have written dated back to when I was in the first grade. Just this weekend I discovered several chapters from three different stories I had started writing back in high school. Writing is just something that I have always done.
LBBB: How long did it take for you to write your first book?
SQ: Technically I wrote the first few chapters 11 years ago when I was just 20 years old. I came across them ten years later and decided that I was going to finally finish Braelyn's story. I already knew most of what I wanted to happen, it was just a matter of putting it into words. I gave myself a goal to get it written before the end of 2014 and hit publish early November that year. It took me around 8 months total to finish it.
LBBB: How do you come up with ideas for your stories?
SQ: I cannot honestly answer this questions because I really do not know. I will just be driving down the street and an idea comes to mind. Sometimes I will wake up from a dead sleep and have to write in my Notes App on my iPhone with a story idea.
LBBB: What is your writing routine like? Do you have a set schedule or are you flexible?
SQ: Most of the time I write at night after my four children have gone to bed. When the weather allows, my husband will take the children to the park or somewhere for a few hours so I can write during the day. I have to have complete silence to write or I cannot hear myself think. ;)
LBBB: What inspires you to write?
SQ: Like most writers, music inspires me a lot. I also have always just been a big daydreamer and will play out stories in my head like a movie. I can remember doing that since I was just a little kid.
LBBB: Are any of your stories written from personal experience, or any character traits that mirror yours?
SQ: Not from any experiences or based off of anything about myself. I do base places off of real ones I know though.
LBBB: When in a slump, what do you do? If you read or listen to music, what are your go-to books or music?
SQ: When I am in a slump, I will read a book or two. It helps clear my mind of the jumbled thoughts that I cannot quite put together so that I can start out fresh.
LBBB: How do you respond to negative feedback/comments with your work?
SQ: I will admit, the first few negative feedback/reviews I received, they really hurt. Putting your words and thoughts out there can be really terrifying. I just have to remind myself that not everyone likes the same things. Something one person hates from my story another person might love, and vice versa. I try to look at every negative feedback that I get as something constructive and use it as a learning experience.
LBBB: What is your writing space like? Do you work anywhere or do you have a special place just for your writing? Messy or clean?
SQ: My Notes App in my iPhone would confuse about anyone but myself. I am constantly adding random sentences or just one or two words in it when something pops into my head. My actual laptop though is all in order. I do not use pen and paper often, so not much to make a mess with.
LBBB: Do you have a favorite author? Series?
SQ: Colleen Hoover and Amy Harmon
LBBB: Any fur-babies?
SQ: No
