Picking up the Pieces Synopsis:
At twelve years old, Kaylee Harper’s life took a heartbreaking turn when her father was murdered and she was left for dead.
Now seventeen, Kaylee’s still living with the unbearable guilt from that night. Things now seem to be looking up for Kaylee. She has Alexis Collins, her best friend who is practically her sister, and Riley Thompson, her boyfriend who is the star running back on their high school’s football team.
Kaylee is starting to see that Riley isn’t all that great, but is it too late?
Adam Thomas has everything a teenager could wish for, two loving and caring parents, friends, a nice truck, and a starting spot on the school’s varsity basketball team. Now he just wants the perfect girl and he has his sights set on Kaylee.
After Adam takes her home one night he has no intentions of staying away, but Riley has different plans and he is not about to let her go.
Kaylee’s life is once again turned upside down and this time it’s more than just her that she has to worry about.
Can Adam help Kaylee wash away the guilt she carries around and get her to see that she can trust him? Can he make her see that she is not alone?
As more secrets are revealed will she finally let Adam in so he can protect her?

Excerpt:
I flutter awake some time later to a hand caressing my face. I don’t jump or flinch from the touch. It is then that I know it can only be one person.
His piercing blue eyes look sad as he continues his caress. I smile lazily. “Hey.” After what happened two days ago, I thought I’d lost him for good. I didn’t expect him to want to see me after that.
His smile is faint. “Hey sweetheart, how are you feeling?”
My breathing has somehow become uneven. “A little better,” I manage to say.
Adam doesn’t reply. He seems to be focusing on something on my face. Did he figure it out? Surely not. Swallowing hard, I keep talking. “How long have you been here?” I ask hoping to take away his attention from my face.
“Not long after you did. You snore, by the way,” he teases playfully.
My mouth gapes open. “I do not!” I say defensively.
He chuckles softly. “No, you don’t. I was just messing with you.” His face instantly grows serious. “When I pulled up on the accident, it took four people to hold me back. I was scared for you and all I wanted was to get to you.”
My eyes widen in astonishment. “You were there?”
“Yeah,” he answers quietly. “When I saw you lying on the stretcher, I almost lost it right then. You weren’t moving,” he says as he stares off into space as if he is reliving it.
I turn his face so he is looking at me. “I’m okay.”
He closes his eyes and leans forward, his forehead resting against mine. “I want to be with you, Kaylee. I want to be the one to protect you, I want to be the one to love you, and I want to be the one who makes you happy.” His eyelids flutter open as he looks hopelessly into my eyes. “Will you be with me, sweetheart? Will you let me do all of those things and more? Because I would give you the damn world if it meant you were happy.” I know he would, and God, I wish I could say yes.
