Shortly before the stroke of midnight on December 31, 2012 I made a tactical error in judgment. I announced to my husband and children after drinking two martinis, that I was setting THIRTEEN New Year’s resolutions for the coming year. The next day, my son had recorded all thirteen promises I made to myself, and I woke to find them listed on a giant whiteboard next to my bed. I had set myself up to fail monumentally.
Number thirteen was “the one.” You know, the GO BIG or go home completely impractical idea. That big idea that was doomed to certain failure the minute to words fell out of my mouth. “I have an idea for a story, and I’m going to write a book.” The cumulative look on my family’s faces was priceless.
My cozy romantic mystery, Tethered Through Time (Time Series #1), landed into a sea of romance novels with a small but elegant splash in May of 2014. In fact, I pushed the PUBLISH button with Amazon on my birthday. A companion novel, A Vision in Time (Time Series #2), a highly suspenseful romance novel, will be released in mid-April of this year. I’ll offer a third installment to the Time Series, Suspended in Time, in early 2016.
All I can say is the last two years have been quite a ride. To be honest, I never intended to dive head-first into this business. I had successful career, a happy family and a fabulous life. But sometimes, the universe knows best, and conspired to help me find my passion.
A small news organization heard about my New Year’s resolution quest, and I wrote a column describing my adventure. The rest as they say is history. I’m now a featured columnist every month in the monthly magazine – 85 South/Out and About in Atlanta, Georgia. I’ve just written my fifteenth column, and enjoy putting my spin on almost any topic. Some days I find it hard to believe someone is paying me to tell a short story and offer a little advice. Every month, when I receive my copy in mail, I squeal like a little girl.
That’s my story. It started with a dream. My family has always lived by the mantra – every morning you have two choices: continue to sleep with your dreams or wake up and chase them. Like so many, my life has had its ups and downs, full of daunting tragedy and beautiful blessings. But something changed that New Year’s Eve when I decided to tackle those thirteen resolutions. I woke up and chased a dream. And now, that’s how I sign the inside cover of all my books – DREAM BIG!!
